Steen Road Bridge Superstructure Replacement
Project Overview
Collier Township with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) oversight is currently undergoing preliminary engineering efforts for the replacement of the existing bridge superstructure carrying Steen Road over Chartiers Creek in Collier Township, Allegheny County. This work is anticipated to begin in the summer or fall of 2027, with anticipated completion around fall of 2028 at the latest.

The proposed superstructure will be simple, composite, steel welded plate girders on unknown reinforced concrete abutments. There will be minor roadway approach work to tie into the new bridge superstructure. The approach roadway will have 11-foot lanes and minimum 2-foot shoulders. The existing bridge width will be maintained. Additional work on this project will include guide rail updates and pavement marking installation. A full road closure and detour will be necessary for Steen Road for the duration of the project, with provisions made for access to businesses and residences during the closure. The detour route will be 2.5 miles and will utilize Route 50, Prestley Road, Thoms Run Road, and Steen
Road.

As part of the project, the public is invited to submit feedback and commentary concerning the project overview and presentation. Questions, comments, and concerns can all be submitted through the link below:
