• Where do I report a property complaint such as high grass or an unsightly property?

• What type of swimming pools require a permit?

  Any type of structure intended for swimming, recreational bathing or wading, in-ground, above-ground, on-ground, hot tubs or spas, and inflatable or collapsible pools capable of containing water over 24 inches deep requires a permit and safety barriers. This includes portable and inflatable swimming pools. Installing one of these pools without property safety barriers is very dangerous to neighboring children and can result in drowning.

• When do I need a permit?

  If you are unsure as to whether or not you need a permit, please contact the Township Codes Office and ask for clarification.
  Some common building projects that require a permit include:

  • Home additions
  • Decks
  • Garages
  • Fences
  • Sheds
  • Retaining Walls over 4 feet in height
  • Swimming Pools
• When do I not need a permit?

  Replacing downspouts, gutters, soffits, and fascia. Replacing kitchen and bath fixtures such as counters, cabinets and sinks. Roof shingles or doors and windows which are existing and do not make structural changes.

• What do I do if I have no water or no electric or no gas or no cable or no WIFI?

  If you are experiencing issues with any of these utilities (water, electric, gas, cable, WiFi), you need to call the company that provides that service to you. You can also sign up for alerts on their websites. The utility websites may also list outages. If you smell gas, call 911.

Garbage & Recycling

• When can I place my garbage out on the curb for pickup?

  Garbage and recycling should be placed at the curb after 6 p.m. on the day prior to collection and before 6 a.m. the morning of scheduled collection. Late placement of items will be noted by the driver and may not be picked up.

  The magistrate’s office handles both traffic and non-traffic citations. An ADA is usually there in Monday afternoon before the 1 p.m. hearings.

• What number do I dial in an emergency?

  In the event of an emergency, always dial 911; do not call the police station number. Our police clerk is available to assist from 8 AM to 4 PM, but as the police station utilizes the Allegheny County 911 system, our officers do not get dispatched by calling the police station and cannot offer an immediate response to your emergency without calling 911. Non-emergency callers can dial 412-279-6911 for the Allegheny County non-emergency dispatch. The office number to contact the station is 412-276-5051.

• Who do I call if I’m depressed or feel suicidal?

  Please call Allegheny Crisis Emergency Services at 888-424-2287. Please note that this is a free service to all Allegheny County residents.

• Do the Collier Police offer fingerprinting services?

  Collier Township Police Department no longer offers or conducts fingerprinting. Please call the Pennsylvania State Police department, located at 449 McCormick Road in Moon Township, to request an appointment or additional information concerning fingerprinting services. Their dispatch phone number is 412-787-2000

• Can the Collier Police Department check on my residence if I am out of town?

  We can! To request this service, please fill out the Vacation Notification Form (PDF) and turn it in to the Police Department during normal business hours.
