Notice: Pennsylvania Resource Council Publishes 2026 Hard to Recycle and Household Chemical Calendar (Click for More Information)
Although Collier Township does not offer household hazardous waste, hard to recycle or household chemical collections through Republic Services, the Pennsylvania Resource Council (PRC) and its partner organizations hold events at various locations throughout Western Pennsylvania to allow for drop-off of items that are not collected through ordinary curbside trash collection and are not easily recyclable.
For the Hard to Recycle event, this includes small appliances containing freon (such as a mini fridge or dehumidifier; please note larger appliances like full-size fridges and freezers will not be accepted), batteries, Styrofoam, powered yard tools, TVs, radios, and more. Electronic items and appliances can be notoriously difficult to dispose of, so let the PRC help you get rid of your unnecessary items in a safe and cost-effective manner, and rather than throwing your Styrofoam in the trash, save it and bring it here to help it be put to a better use!
For the Household Hazardous Waste event, this includes gasoline, kerosene, marked aerosol cans, household cleaners, paint products (such as oil-based paint and paint thinner; please note that dry and/or empty paint cans are accepted for regular curbside collection–use cat litter or newspaper to soak up leftover paint and leave the top off to air dry, then set out when dry), garden chemicals, and more. Please note that everything should have a label so that the collections unit knows what it is! If the label has been removed but you know what the substance is, please write the substance name on the container or label the container to allow for safe disposal.
Please note that a fee may be charged for registration to these events to offset collection costs incurred. For a list of what can be accepted at these events and any associated costs, a registration option, and for more information, please go to the PRC’s website at PRC 2026 Western PA Collection Schedule Announced – PRC. For questions on what can be accepted, how to register, or if you need any assistance, please contact the Western Pennsylvania office of the PRC at 412-488-7490. Collier thanks you for doing your part to keep our township, our county, and our state clean and safe!
